Frequently Asked Questions
ExpandCollaspe Question: How Much Does it Cost to Join?
Answer: It is different for each unit. The Young Marines of Westchester charges $25.00 to join. For the $25.00 a Young Marine is issued a national t-shirt, guide book, and accident insurance for one year (The accident insurance only covers the Young Marine on Young Marine events). Each Young Marine is responsible for his or her uniform. The entire cost is around $80.00.
ExpandCollaspe Question:Is it like Boot Camp for Kids?
Answer: No. The Young Marines is not a boot camp for kids. While our members learn about discipline, military customs and courtesy and other Marine Corps related knowledge, it is not intended to be a Marine boot camp.
ExpandCollaspe Question:What exactly do the Young Marines do?
Answer: The Young Marines is a youth group similar to other youth groups in that each unit meets on a regular basis. A regular meeting generally consists of a beginning formation where the Pledge of Allegiance is said and then information is passed. Units conduct PT physical training which will consist of the "Youth Physical Fitness Program" regimen of pushups, situps, broad-jump, pull-ups and a 300 yard shuttle run. Most units conduct close order drill and color guard drill, classes on first aid, citizenship, map & compass, etc. The meeting then ends with another formation. Promotions and awards are given at different times for personal achievement and subjects that build knowledge and abilities.
